Dr. Peter Mattei is dual board-certified in general dermatology and micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology, commonly referred to as Mohs surgery. In addition to diagnosing, evaluating, and treating general skin, hair, and nail conditions, Dr. Mattei has additional formal training performing a specialized surgical technique that minimizes the removal of healthy tissue when treating certain skin cancers with surgery. This surgery referred to as Mohs, named after the physician who pioneered the technique, examines individually removed layers of the skin under a microscope to maximize cosmetic outcome in particularly important in sensitive areas such as the face, nose, and ear.

Dr. Mattei completed medical school at Drexel University School of Medicine. After completing a medical internship, Dr. Mattei proudly served in various active-duty Air Force assignments as a flight surgeon including deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He went on to complete a research fellowship at Harvard Medical School before completing his dermatology residency at Johns Hopkins followed by fellowships in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology and Cosmetic  Dermatology.
